THE APPLES
- 2 medium Fuji apples, peeled, cored and sliced into circles
- 1/2 stick of butter, melted
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
CAKE
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 egg
STEPS:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Wash apples, peel if used as in the photo, take time and thoroughly washed. You can also peel and cut into slices. I cut 1/4 inch.
- Grease a 9 inch round cake pan.
- In the bottom of the pan pour the melted butter. Add 1/2 tsp cinnamon and 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg. 1/4 cup brown sugar
- Arrange the apple slices in a decorative pattern in the melted butter, brown sugar and cinnamon.
- In a large mixing bowl whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and the remaining cinnamon and ground nutmeg.
- Stir in the milk, vanilla extract, vegetable oil and egg, being careful not to over mix.
- Pour the batter into the cake pan, on top of the apple slices.
- Bake at 350 degrees F for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean.
- Invert the hot cake onto a platter or cake plate and let stand for about 5 minutes. Remove the pan and scrape up any fruit slices clinging to the pan and arrange them over the cake.
